I lost everything to the androids... the people of West City, Bulma, and... even you, Trunks. All of it because I was weak.

❥ Character Information
Character Name: Son Gohan
Character Age: 24
Character Species: Human/Saiyan Hybrid. Saiyans are identical to humans in every way, except for having a monkey tail. Gohan's tail was removed at a young age (twice) and has since stopped growing.
Current Health: Alive, but permanently injured. He has a scar over his left eye, and is missing his left arm.
Outfit: Martial artist gi, in the style of the Turtle School. However, rather than it being the traditional orange and blue colors (seen here), the gi is black and gray, with the only color being a blue belt (seen here). On his back is a white circle, with the kanji for the second half of his name written in black (Han, 飯).

Character Canon: Dragon Ball
History: Future Gohan is the version of Gohan from the original unaltered timeline, where the world was destroyed by the androids. However, whereas Future Gohan is normally supposed to have died fighting the androids, this Future Gohan comes from a timeline where he's the only survivor. He now exists outside of his timeline, and has been given new purpose by Supreme Kai of Time, Aeos.

Canon Point: Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Post-Episode 50
Canon Iteration: Canon Alternate Alternate (???)
Canon Iteration Explanation: In the original timeline, Future Gohan was pushed into the role of being a hero out of necessity. Due to everyone dying, he was the only one with the power to fight the androids, so he tried to fashion himself into the hero he always saw his father as. However, he was never a fighter, and without any guidance on how to become stronger, he was unable to put a stop to the androids in any meaningful way.

Originally, this culminates in his desire to pass on his hopes of a better future to Trunks. Training him, and eventually realizing that the only way to push Trunks into becoming a Super Saiyan, was by helping him experience loss. Leading to a final stand against the androids, and his eventual death.

But this Future Gohan comes from a timeline where he didn't die. Instead, the androids killed Bulma and Trunks in front of him, and Gohan was made to live with that failure. This pushed him to a breaking point, which led to him being visited by Aeos, a former Supreme Kai of Time, and given a new purpose.

In essence, rather than dying a hero, he lived long enough to become a villain. He attributed his failure to his lack of power, and was granted more power through the Dark Dragon Balls. He then joined Aeos as one of her Warriors in Black, helping her supervise the Super Space-Time Tournament. Their goal being to decide which timeline would be the "True Timeline", so they can dedicate their all to protecting that timeline, and eliminate the rest.

He eventually learns that his warped point of view was informed by his deep trauma, and decides to fight to preserve the timelines alongside an alternate of Trunks. Eventually, Aeos is also convinced that her own point of view is extreme, and she decides to visit all the existing timelines to judge for herself the merit of multiple timelines. The Warriors in Black serve as her escort as she does so.

Role: Legend

Role Qualities/Attributes: As a Legend, Gohan will manifest a golden halo behind his head. However, his halo will grow in size and splendor the more of his power he uses for the right reasons, an aesthetic he associates with the Kais unlocking their powers. His halo in particular will be inspired by the King Kai symbol Gohan saw on the back of his father's gi the multiple times he was saved by him. In Gohan's mind, his father represents true heroism, and that symbol always gave him hope.

Role Reasoning: Future Gohan has always been a character who fashioned himself into a hero, despite not being fit for it. While the circumstances are different for this particular Gohan, that logic still holds true. And with this Gohan in particular having fallen to the point of having a brief villainous stint, being labeled as a Legend will carry with it a strong case of impostor syndrome... and an incentive to redeem himself and become a better warrior. To earn the right to be a Legend, like his father would be.

In general, playing Future Gohan has always carried the major roadblock of him not wanting to self-improve because of the guilt he felt over his circumstances at home. But this Gohan in particular has failed so tremendously, and fallen so low, that the only way for him to go is back up. He's failed his world, but he has no attachments to shackle him now. He's not in a position where his power is a necessity, so he has the opportunity to actually explore his potential and develop it. That's what I'm personally looking forward to playing.

❥ Personality
Option 2. Choose FOUR-FIVE of the following questions to answer and expand upon. You may choose a fifth question if you feel it is integral to your character's personality. Each answer has a 100-300 word requirement.

  • What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?

  • There are two events in particular that traumatized Gohan the most. One is the arrival of the androids, and subsequent death of almost all his loved ones when he was nine. The other is the death of Bulma and Trunks at the hands of the androids, after fourteen years of trying to keep them safe.

The arrival of the androids in particular cemented Gohan's belief that his own needs weren't as important as the needs of the greater good. As such, he threw his hopes and dreams aside, in an attempt to become the hero the world needed him to be. Which, in Gohan's mind, meant becoming more like his father.

However, the death of Bulma and Trunks threw away any hopes he had of becoming a hero like his father. Instead, making him see himself as a complete failure, a weakling that couldn't keep his loved ones safe. And putting him on a path to seeking more power, in response to the trauma of being so powerless.

  • What experience challenged your character's core beliefs? How did they handle this or change from it?

  • Up until the death of Bulma and Trunks, Gohan's core beliefs remained mostly in tact. He believed his father to be the pinnacle of strength and heroism, and truly believed that if his father had been around, the androids would've been a thing of the past. He modeled himself after his father in an attempt to inspire himself to reach the same heights at him, having hope that they would eventually stop the androids and save the world if they kept at it long enough.

But once Bulma and Trunks were killed by the androids, any hope of a better future died with them. Leaving Gohan in the pits of despair, and challenging everything he believed in up until that point. He'd always doubted his ability to live up to his father's legacy, but he always tried nonetheless. But it was in this moment, that he realized that he had failed to do so, and paid the consequences for it.

This moment warped Gohan's view of himself and his power. Whereas before he wanted to be like his dad, now he believed he wasn't worthy of such a legacy. He saw himself as a failure, as a weakling, and put an unhealthy emphasis on seeking power. He had paid so dearly for his failure, that he didn't want to go through something like that ever again. So now, the only thing that mattered was power, and whatever it took to get it.

It took a confrontation with an alternate version of Trunks for him to realize that his obsession with power was a trauma response to losing Trunks.

  • What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why?

  • Trunks is the single most important relationship in Gohan's life. Not just because he's the little brother Gohan never had, but because Trunks represents to Gohan what everyone always saw in Gohan; A well of untapped potential, held back by inexperience and self-doubt.

Trunks was born a year before the androids attacked. To Trunks, this is what his life has always been. Trunks has never seen a peaceful world, has never pursued his own interests, has never met people his own age. And it was impossible for Gohan to not see that as Trunks being robbed of a childhood... much like he was.

To Gohan, Trunks represented hope. Hope for a better future, where the androids are gone and people are finally allowed to live their lives. But when Trunks died, that hope was gone. And it wasn't until he was confronted with another Trunks from another timeline that some of that hope was rekindled.

  • What does your character feel like they struggle with still? Where could they improve? This could be physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise.

  • Guilt. Gohan struggles the most with guilt.

Given he's the kind of person who's been burdened with great power from a young age, he feels responsible for any situation where he feels he could've done more. Whether it's preventing his father's death, or stopping the androids from killing his friends, Gohan is always plagued by all manner of what-ifs.

What if he'd been able to find out about his father's illness sooner? What if he'd known about the androids early enough to prevent his friends from dying? What if he'd become a Super Saiyan before Vegeta died, so they could fight together? What if he'd learned how to utilize Super Saiyan to its full potential with his father? What if he'd trained Trunks sooner? What if he'd succeeded in helping him become a Super Saiyan? What if Bulma had finished her time machine?

In Gohan's mind, all of these things are a failing on his part. And as such, he feels guilt over it, despite not having any real control over most of these things.

  • What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?

  • There aren't a lot of places where Gohan feels safe. Having spent most of his life trying to survive against an enemy he can't sense, he's usually on guard almost all the time.

However, despite that... there's a part of him that feels the most relaxed outdoors, in nature. Not just because the androids tend to prefer population centers with lots of people, but because nature and the outdoors reminds him the most of his father and his childhood. He grew up in the mountains, he spent lots of time studying and playing in the woods as a little kid. Between that, and the wilderness survival training he underwent, Gohan feels the most in control when he's surviving in nature.

And there aren't a lot of instances where he's in control of his life, so he values that peace.

OOC Opt-Outs: None come to mind as of this writing, but I would appreciate warning labels anyway.
IC Opt-Outs: None come to mind as of this writing. I would like to explore that while here though.
Content Warnings (Character-related): Violence, Kidnapping/Abduction, Self-Harm, Suicide, Death.
Sensitive Subjects (Character-related): The androids. His father. Bulma and Trunks. His missing left arm. His efficacy as a fighter.

Gohan carries the weight of the world on his shoulders, and suffers from a large amount of depression and self-doubt. As a child, he was kidnapped multiple times due to his power, and as such, has had it instilled into him that his power was too valuable to go to waste. However, as an adult, his inability to affect change and his amputated arm made him wonder if he'd squandered his power. Seeing himself less as an individual and more as a failed replacement for Goku, leading to dissociation and suicidal ideation.
